On 1 February 2023, the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Juba hosted an alumni breakfast for SSPDF General officers who attended their Grade 1 (G1) course at the National Defence College, Kenya. The event was organized by the DA, Juba, Col P K Karigih ‘psc’ (K). During the meeting, H.E, Amb. Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Samuel Nandwa pinned them ‘ndc’ (K) badges and presented the Alumni with the National Defence College branded Ties.

The Ambassador highlighted the important role that bilateral military relations play in spearheading good neighborliness and regional stability. He reiterated the commitment by the Republic of Kenya in helping the Republic of South Sudan to build her institutional capacity and peace building alongside the implementation of the Roadmap for peaceful transition and the Revitalized-Agreement on Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).

The Assistant Chief of Defence Force for Training and Research for SSPDF who was leading the team, Lt Gen James Chol Koang ‘ndc’ (K), recalled the longstanding cordial relations between Kenya and South Sudan that stemmed right from the times of liberation struggle and the role played by Kenya in their support. He noted most of the officers trained in Kenya Defence Forces institutions have stood tall in their duties and functions within the SSPDF. The Alumni present included; Lt Gen James Chol Koang ‘ndc’ (K), Maj Gen. Awur Mawel Malual ‘ndc’ (K), Brig Gen. John Mau Dau ‘ndc’ (K), Brig. Gen Daniel Bama ‘ndc’ (K), Maj. Gen (Dr.) Peter Gatwech Gai ‘ndc’ (K), Maj. Gen. Ador Deng Ador ‘ndc’ (K).
